In 2021, Four Seasons announced plans to open a property in Mallorca, Spain. There’s now a major update, as the hotel is expected to open this summer, and is now accepting reservations.

Basics of the Four Seasons Mallorca at Formentor
Four Seasons and Emin Capital (a private equity firm focused on hospitality and real estate) are partnering to open the Four Seasons Mallorca at Formentor. The hotel has opened for public reservations as of May 31, 2024.
For some background on this historic property, it first opened in 1929, and for the past few years, has been undergoing an extensive renovation. The Four Seasons will feature 110 accommodations, 31 of which will be suites. All accommodations will feature balconies with sea and/or forest views, and some suites will even have plunge pools.
The hotel will be located on a 3,000-acre plot of the Formentor Peninsula, offering access to a pristine beach, as well as a functioning vineyard just a short drive away. The hotel will be around an hour from Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI).
As far as amenities go, the property will boast several restaurants and bar (including a beachfront restaurant and cafe, a poolside bar, and grill), a pool, a spa facility, and seaside activities.
This will be Four Seasons’ second property in Spain, after the Four Seasons Madrid, which opened in 2020 (and is spectacular).
Four Seasons Mallorca rates & how to book
What are rates like at the Four Seasons Mallorca? Rates vary wildly seasonally — in the off season, I’m seeing rates as low as $600 per night, while in peak season, I see rates of over $1,500 per night. The hotel alsohas some promotions, which can add value with your stay.

Luxury hotel conversions are always cool
It’s always fun to see luxury hotel groups take over existing properties and renovate them — these kinds of properties typically have a lot more charm and a better sense of place than newly built hotels. As much as I like an ultra-modern, cutting-edge luxury hotel, I still prefer a combination of old world charm and modern comforts.
It’s pretty clear that this hotel has undergone a major renovation prior to becoming a Four Seasons, as the old Hotel Formentor was definitely way past its prime prior to closing. For that matter, a three year closure suggests that major work was done.
The hotel seems to have a very special location, since it’s not just your typical Mallorca beach resort, but rather has unique geography.
Also, I’ve long been sad that Four Seasons doesn’t have any properties in Germany (though there is Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, which is “four seasons” in German, hah). I guess a Mallorca property is as close as we’ll get to one in Germany, given that Germans have basically claimed Mallorca as their own. Here’s to hoping that the practice of reserving lounge chairs first thing in the morning doesn’t carry over.
Bottom line
The Four Seasons Mallorca will be opening in August 2024. This is a historic property that’s nearly 100 years old, and it has been undergoing a major renovation for the past few years. I have to imagine this will be Mallorca’s most luxurious property when it opens, and I’m looking forward to seeing it open.
