I think the time jump was mostly done just to be able to move characters on without much development or explanation. I'm pretty sure most of the exits happened prejump even though there are a few more to come. Even the stunt didn't really get rid of many characters. Just James, I think.
I thought they said it was to avoid a stream of exits.
Which we still got.

I appreciate your thinking, however the majority of contributors have agreed to continue using this thread as it was intended prior to you creating the early release thread and so people will continue to post freely in this one too.

Doug must have been killed off in a period I wasn't watching. I remember them running the Deli together but don't remember him dying at all.
Wonder if Ste might run the new restaurant, though not sure why with the depleted cast they need that, the Dog and Casa McQueen. I assume Tom's coffee hut will be forgotten about.
Hannah Cheers confirmed in Inside Soap that Tony will run the new restaurant.
Casa McQueen has already started running before the jump. Is Tony to take over & be employed by the McQueen's now? or is this a new restaurant apart that is not Casa McQueen. I also thought he was running the Dog & pub's do often have a restaurant section in them & serve food which I thought the Dog was also doing anyway.
It's a new restaurant back where the restaurants used to be, replacing the McQueen house.

Hollyoaks has been releasing episodes early one way or another for 20 years. Discussion has been fine in this thread for the last couple of years since C4 adopted a streaming first approach.

I agree, hasn't Hollyoaks had a first look showing (whether it be on E4 or the app) for about 20 years now?

Yes, it'll be 20 years in January since the E4 First Look episode launched.

Surely anyone wanting to avoid spoilers would not come in a thread where it clearly states spoilers included in the title, and the OP's opening post, until they've watched the episode anyway.

Just wondering - do the McQueens now live in the restaurant? Didn't think about it until 20 minutes ago.

How on earth does Abe have such a sophisticated lock up system? Very glad to see Jack.

Presume they live in the big house with Mercedes.

The hidden hostage cell seems bigger than the flat.

Cleo being held captive for a year is absolutely ridiculous. I really thought HO would stop these (OTT) stories once the time jump happened.

why would you think that? it’s been part of the show for at least the past 12/13 years.

lol we are expected to believe abe could kidnap a woman from a hospital bed, drag her to a flat, which now somehow has a hidden room with a lock and key, and no one saw him dragging her through the hospital and into the house ? and then no one found is suspicious than an injured girl just vanishes from a hospital without telling anyone, quits her job and just flies off to Bali and not say a word, and only send text messages, ? no photos, not conversations over the phone, just the odd "hi im fine dont worry about me"

It's really odd isn't it. The time-jump was promoted as a way to avoid a long stream of exits and yet 75% of all the exits came before the time jump. We've only really lost a couple of characters with this jump and all of them could easily have been moved on without it.

I have to say I wasn't expecting Ste to be in full burns makeup, but not to have one scar was a bit of a stretch even for Hollyoaks.
I think they are going to explain this with either
A) A through away line such as 'You were luck you weren't wearing your seat belt otherwise you wouldn't have been thrown clear of the blast.
OR
B ) We will see a flashback. Ste will have forgotten something and step out of the car, only to be thrown clear and be in a coma for a year as a result of hitting his head.
If its option B, then if you remember they did it with Warrens survival when the audience though he had perished in the loft fire.
The time frame we see on screen isn't always relative to real life. There could be a scene in-between seeing Ste's face and the car blowing up. They did that with Warren and its a common bait and switch in drama. It seems like they're determined to make his recovery as hilariously absurd as well. A year in a coma after being blown up and next week he's apparently up and about already seeking revenge
He should have been burnt to a crisp! I reckon Ste would even have come out perfectly fine if he's been sat on a bleeping Nuclear bomb that went off. Makes about just as much sense as him surviving that car bomb without severe deformity from head to toe whose impact threw Donnie, Freddie & Grace off their feet as some distance. There is just NO WAY!!!
I could probably handwave him surviving as implausible as it is if they at least make the recovery and response and grief somewhat credible but now I'm not even sure we'll get that.
I just realised another thing about Ste. In 2013 his husband (Doug) was blown up and killed as the result of a bomb. Ten years later his current husband was killed as the result of another bomb.
Tonight actually brought back memories of the first episode I saw this time around, from 23.10.13. Ste had injuries and Danny introduced him to the rest of his family as his son. No coincidence, but that was Leela's debut episode.

I worried in case Jack was at best in a coma all year and at worst killed off. It transpired to have been Ste in the coma.

Did anyone else get the feeling that both Jack and Ste had been killed off when Tony was looking at those photos on the wall?

Nah - had either been axed it would've been said by now
I think that was their intention, but it was obvious neither were going to die. Like Mercedes - Ste, Jack (also Darren, Nancy and Tony) were always going to be safe in the time jump

I think that as Jack is an Osborne and Ste and honorary Lomax, both among families who were being kept, both characters themselves were kept.

The time jump seems so unnecessary. I would of much rather seen the fallout from last week play out on screen.
Also I hope they are not just going to rinse and repeat Abe and Cleo, but with Peri.

I was absolutely beaming at seeing Peri kept beyond the time jump
I disagree with her relationship with Abe as he is such a terrible man, and this can only lead to her being hurt in the long run Admittedly it is only Cleo he has abused, so not the biggest crime against humanity really.
While I disagree with some of the changes, most notably axeing Cindy/Tom/James, I do now forgive the producers and give every episode a chance. I may skip scenes without characters I like. However, as I do like the Lomax, Osborne and Hutchinson families, and a few other characters, I should see parts of most episodes again now.

The show released new episodes early (the same evening previously which has been recently changed to the morning) & these early release ep's were all discussed here on this thread before with no problem.
You talk like this thread should be spoiler free & chat should be restricted to ep's only after they've been aired on E4. I completely disagree with you & you seem to have decided this for us all on your own & keep repeating the same thing & directing us to the other thread & also keep telling us to use spoiler tags here, if we do continue this thread. Who put you in charge? I think you have good intentions but if people want to use both threads OK that's fine although I personally think it unnecessary to have started the new one. Tell me what difference does an evening release or morning release make, when early streaming ep's were discussed here before? You decided this yourself for all of us that there was this pressing need to introduce a new thread. I don't think it necessary & think people should be able to still comment including tab free spoilers here as they have always done. The title of this thread does state spoilers are included.

As viewers, we know that Cleo isn’t his only victim. The real Kitty suffered at his hands too.
Bit of a cruel statement to say regarding Cleo though, don’t like seeing abuse brushed aside or mocked in such a way.
