Ravi Rafferty, 15, said while the changes have improved the park, "there's still not that much to it. It's awfully small. I think they should lower the price a little." Children under 2 are admitted free. "I think the price of admission is fine," said Dee St. Lawrence, who attended with her son. "Generally, I'm impressed with the place. 1 The hot item Wednesday was The Vampire, one of two roller coasters Kentucky Kingdom is introducing this season.

Business at Baptist convention collapses as 'messengers' vanish BY GEORGE W. CORNELL AP RELIGION WRITER NEW ORLEANS Proceedings collapsed Thursday on the final day of the Southern Baptist Convention because most of the delegates had abandoned the scene, with the big battle for the presidency over. Discussion of major moral and social issues including a severe condemnation of hom*osexuals had to be scrapped for lack of a quorum, with most of the circular tiers of seats empty in the vast Louisiana Superdome. "Once the row over election of a president was over, that was it," said the Rev. Felix T.

Zeigler of Venice, Fla. "The crowd couldn't be bothered. "But there are other issues that are more important to Christian faith -than the personality of one man." Longtime observers said it was the first time in memory that convention decisions had to be dropped because people didn't show up. The main draw was Tuesday's election of the Rev. Morris Chapman, a fundamentalist from Wichita Falls, Texas, as president of the 14.9 million-member denomination.

He defeated the moderate, candidate, the Rev. Daniel Vestal of the Atlanta suburb of Dunwoody, by a 58 percent to 42 percent margin. Registered attendance at the convention had totalled 38,478, the third largest in the history of the nation's largest Protestant denomination. But under the rules, a quarter of them were needed to conduct business. From 4,000 to 5,000 people were estimated on hand for the morning session Thursday, and the number dwindled as the day went on.

The Rev. Mark Corts of WinstonSalem, N.C., chairman of a resolutions committee, apologized from the podium for the impossibility of taking up 11 pending proposals, some keenly controversial. "We worked through some significant issues and wanted your opinion expressed," he said, adding that the untended proposals were left for "your encouragement and predilection." The resolutions included one to oppose "all efforts to gain civil rights protection for hom*osexuals on the basis of sexual preference." The resolution called hom*oseuxality a "morally unconscionable learned behavior and lifesytle, not deserving of government support' and special civil rights protection as a minority." Other proposals condemned government funding of "offensive, morally repugnant and sacrilegious" art; called for changes in tax laws to encourage mothers to stay home with their children; and called for restrictions on broadcast advertising of alcholic beverages. Tough an ortion law passes Louisiana House BY GUY COATES ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER BATON ROUGE, La. The Louisiana House of Representatives passed the nation's harshest state anti-abortion bill Thursday, a measure that would provide up to 10 years hard labor for doctors who perform abortions.

The bill passed on a 74-27 vote, and moved to the state Senate. Its proponents said they hope the conservative U.S. Supreme Court eventually will receive the bill and use it to overturn the court's 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion. Earlier Thursday, House legislators twice voted against including exceptions to the law that would have allowed abortions in cases of rape.

The bill, which 'also provides fines of up to $100,000 against those who perform abortions, would allow abortion only to save the life of the woman. Democratic Gov. Buddy Roemer repeated his pledge to veto any bill that does 1 not contain exceptions for victims of rape and incest. Sen. Mike Cross, the Democrat who will handle the bill in the Senate, said he expected it to pass there, although the Senate version might contain exceptions for rape and incest.

The bill would not penalize women who receive abortions. Jenkins has claimed that abortion is tantamount to abuse against women. Opponents of the measure said it was an affront to women's privacy rights and unfair to the poor. Several noted that there are only three women in the Legislature. "The issue boils down to a matter of the haves and the have-nots Abortions will still be had by those who are wealthy enough to go to other states," said Rep.

Kip Holden, a Democrat. Despite being an abortion rights supporter, Democrat C.R. Jones had voted against exceptions to the bill. "Amend nothing," said Jones. "You either believe life begins at conception or believe a woman has a right to privacy."
